Ellie’s tutoring background is full of diverse experiences. She began working with students through a refugee tutoring program in Idaho and from there continued to hone her math and standardized test prep skills. She attended Boise State University and graduated with a degree in Psychology. Ellie developed a special interest in the psychology of learning and diversified her education with natural science electives, including physics, anatomy, physiology, and math coursework through the calculus series. During college, Ellie worked for a math and ACT tutoring company and volunteered for the Girl Scouts of Silver Sage Visions program, teaching study skills and health education to at-risk youth. She found this work extremely rewarding and carried her passion for mentoring to Seattle, Washington, where she began working for ESM.
Ellie worked with students in the Pacific Northwest for a year and a half, teaching a wide range of subjects including statistics, English literature, pre-calculus, calculus, social studies, US history, English, introductory biology, chemistry, physics, environmental science, and standardized test prep. While in Washington, Ellie helped students from Seattle, to Venezuela, to London, and many places in between. Ellie enjoys not only helping students achieve their dream scores and grades, but more importantly, building strong relationships with her students that last. Ellie believes that every student’s dream is attainable through hard work and a strong support system.
In 2017, Ellie moved to California to expand her role with ESM. She now serves as the Director of Curriculum and as a College Coach, creating teaching content for ESM and
mentoring students in the Bay Area. As an academic mentor, Ellie loves to craft engaging lessons that are meaningful to each individual, designing math story problems to include a family pet or using a recent camping trip as a catalyst to a punctuation lesson. Personalizing lessons gives students the space to create an unforgettable anecdote and apply learning to life. Ellie enjoys mentoring students through their high school years and preparing them for the next step through college counseling. As a counselor, Ellie helps students navigate the college application process and compose genuine, memorable admissions essays.
When Ellie is not brainstorming new curriculum ideas or mentoring students, she enjoys hiking, gardening, painting, and getting her “dog fix” at the local park!
