HaEun is originally from South Korea and grew up in Korea, Indonesia and Malaysia. She came into contact with many cultures, beliefs and societal practices as a result. Adapting to new cultures and environments has broadened her perspective of global relations and has led to an open-minded approach to life, a positive attitude, and a passion for serving others. She is currently pursuing MSc in International Public Policy at University College London. She also received her B.A. with honors in International Relations with a business minor from Calvin College in the United States.
HaEun began mentoring other students in high school. Teaching has allowed her to develop her communication and organizational skills. Moreover, when she was working in Nicaragua with World Renew, she volunteered as a college advisor at Nicaragua Christian Academy. As an advisor, she had to be a mentor, guide, teacher, as well as trusted friend. The process of helping students deciding on their career path was a valuable experience to her as she assisted with one of their most important decisions in life.
HaEun understands that to be an effective mentor, one must first build a trusting relationship in order to allow students to share their true selves without fear. Being a good mentor means being able to relate to students and listen carefully to what they have to say.
