Marney navigated her own college application processes with a dream of becoming a broadcast journalist. She attended UC Santa Barbara and fell in love with that beautiful city by the sea. She thrived as a student-leader within Residential Life, where she found a strong sense of community and used her mentoring skills to help students find a sense of belonging and success within college.
After obtaining her BA in Communication, and working at the university for two years after graduation, Marney realized her professional aspirations involved providing mentorship and guidance to students.
Marney craved more knowledge in regards to working with college students, and was ready for an advanced degree. She moved from her home state of California to Colorado in order to pursue a master’s degree in Student Affairs in Higher Education from Colorado State University. While in Colorado, Marney connected with amazing students, learned more about the history and theory associated with college student development, and honed her mentorship skills.
Since obtaining her M.S. degree, Marney has checked off many items on her bucket list. She’s an entrepreneur and founder of an educational coaching business called Academic Advisory Counsel, where she helps college students navigate their educational journeys and be the best versions of themselves.
