Talal was born in London to Iraqi parents and moved to Dubai where he spent his high school years. He attended Cambridge University to study engineering, graduating four years later with a master’s degree. Though he eventually chose Cambridge, Talal had a very tough decision after high school as he gained admission to several top colleges in the United States including Stanford and Princeton.
Following graduation, he worked in strategy consulting at Deloitte for two years and then spent several months at retailer TJ Maxx, where he worked in a strategy and finance role. Crucially, he found that he was still looking for a role which would allow him to have greater personal impact and develop truly meaningful relationships. Having seen the real benefit of having a college counsellor when he applied to US colleges, Talal found ESM and immediately took an interest in the company and its mission.
Talal’s work with ESM is focused on helping international students successfully navigate the US college admissions process. He specialises in preparing students for the ACT and SAT, and he also tutors math and physics subjects. His passion for working with students is rooted in the positive impact he can have on a young person’s life by helping him or her achieve their potential.
Away from the world of education, Talal has a passion for electronic music production and DJing and has played several gigs in London. He is an avid mixed martial arts fan having boxed at Cambridge, and has watched nearly every UFC event for the last decade.
