The daughter of a Harvard-educated professor of educational theory (who described her job as “teaching teachers how to teach”), Titania Nguyen grew up in Milton, Massachusetts and attended Milton Academy. While there, she taught and mentored her peers at a local nonprofit, The City School, over multiple summers, sparking her own love of educating and relating to students from all kinds of diverse backgrounds. At Yale University, she studied Ethnicity, Race, and Migration; during her undergraduate years, she also spent a summer running an SAT prep class in Taiwan while constructing an ACT curriculum.

Above all, Titania believes in a holistic view of learning that focuses on answering the question “Why?” She applies an empathetic approach to both teaching and learning, working to understand her students while also asking her students to understand the points of view of the questions being asked. By focusing on the perspective of the testers or the teachers, she encourages her students to think critically about why questions are asked, which guides them to think about how they might answer the question.

Titania also believes deeply in focusing on the individuality and the strengths of each individual student, using those strengths to create pathways to learning that align with how the student approaches the world. Having attended an incredibly competitive and stressful high school, Titania knows how difficult the college process can be, and she aims to help her students navigate that process while also building their confidence in and knowledge of themselves.

Titania recently graduated from the Los Angeles Academy of Artists and Music Production (LAAMP), where she studied under Grammy-award winning producer duo Stargate and learned to write and produce music. So when she's not tutoring, Titania is often making, listening to, or studying music, and she's ruined more than a few songs for her partner by playing them on repeat. She also likes to cook and bake (she makes a mean chocolate chip cookie), run, play and analyze video games, and study languages (Japanese and Korean, as of right now). And she's always looking for a good New York or New Haven-style pizza in the LA area—let her know if you've got any leads.
