Valentin was born in Paris but grew up in Rome. He moved back to Paris after high school to pursue a bachelor’s degree in mathematics at Paris Sud University, stayed there for 2 years, then went to University of Illinois at Chicago to finish his degree.
His year in Chicago was enlightening, as he had fantastic relationships with his professors, and loved the overall experience of studying in the United States. He also sampled a variety of math classes, from business math to algebra. He enjoyed the relationship he had with fellow students and sharing his knowledge to help them succeed.
It was at UIC where Valentin discovered a passion for cryptology. He went on to study the subject in-depth while pursuing a Master’s of Science in Mathematics of Cryptography and Communications at Royal Holloway University of London. He obtained his degree with honours.
When he finished his master’s degree, Valentin decided he wanted to work with students. Since he didn’t feel ready to teach just yet, he started as an educational assistant at the Lycee Français Charles de Gaulle, to learn how to effectively work with teenagers. This position delighted him and he found himself to be a natural teacher and he loved the relationship he built with the young students. Later he took a position as mathematics tutor, helping the students who struggled the most in the final year of high school to make sure they’d pass their Baccalaureate with outstanding grades.
Helping students achieve their full potential was the best part of that work, and this is why Valentin came to ESM Prep: to listen to students, evaluate their needs and strengths, explaining complex material in the most efficient way possible, and make sure they proceed on the right academic path that will someday be the pillar of their success.
