Angelica hails from Norfolk, VA where she earned an International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma in high school. She went on to study at American University in Washington, D.C. where she received her Bachelor of Science in Economics and Bachelor of Arts in Political Science. The most impactful experiences of her undergraduate career included studying abroad in Madrid, Spain where she was able to develop friendships with people from all over the world as the Residential Educator and Assistant for her campus’ Social Justice Living and Learning Community, and providing after-school tutoring and programming to children in low-income communities in Washington, D.C.
Angelica got her start tutoring while she was in college and was fortunate enough to work with bright and energetic 3rd-5th graders. During her time as a tutor, Angelica realized her passion for education and knew that she wanted to be in the classroom after graduation. Upon graduation, she moved to Houston, TX and became a credentialed educator where she helped students reach their full potential. As an Academic Mentor with ESM, Angelica aims to help her mentees strategically tackle any challenge that comes their way through the development of a growth mindset and the provision of a master toolkit, so they too can reach their full potential. She specializes in tutoring English, math, US History, European History, and the SAT/ACT.
Along with working at ESM, Angelica is now pursuing her her Master of Public Policy at the top policy school in the nation, the University of California, Berkeley, because she’s passionate about making sure that everyone has the opportunity to succeed and realize their dreams. In her free time she enjoys singing off-key, dancing in the mirror, burying her nose in a good book, and perfecting choreography learned in dance fitness classes.
