Dane has been passionate about mentoring and teaching ever since he was a freshman in high school. He has had many diverse experiences that have shaped him into the dynamic mentor he is today.
Dane was born and raised in Orange County, California. He graduated from the University of California, Irvine in June 2014 with a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering and a minor in Material Science. Dane definitely got the most out of his time at UC Irvine. He founded a drone building project where he had the opportunity to empower and lead a team of 40 bright engineers to build a flying drone in less than 7 months. He got hired by a startup engineering consulting company where he worked with inventors and businesses who had big ideas but did not have engineering or manufacturing backgrounds. He was offered a research position at the Advanced Power and Energy Program at UC Irvine where he examined alternative methods for biogas cleaning and processing. Lastly, Dane served as the project manager of a team working to design an advanced walking crutch.
After graduation, Dane wanted to find a career where he could use his engineering degree to positively impact people, so he decided to work as an engineer for a medical device startup company. After two years at the startup, Dane realized that something was missing and decided it was time for a career change. Dane looked back on all his life experiences and realized that what truly lights him up is helping people grow and develop.
Now with ESM, some of Dane’s favorite subjects to teach are SAT/ACT, math, physics, biology, chemistry, geometry, psychology and writing. He is also an experienced college admissions coach and essay editor. Dane is passionate about education and loves inspiring those around him to learn and grow themselves. Dane has always trusted in Kevin Durant’s philosophy, “hard work beats talent when talent fails to work hard.” He also believes that anything is possible for those who are willing to feel awkward and uncomfortable as they expand into new comfort zones.
Throughout his life pursuits, Dane has been committed to personal development and maintaining work-life balance. He is very active and enjoys a healthy lifestyle. Some of his hobbies include surfing, snowboarding, mountain biking, trekking, running, skateboarding, spearfishing, freediving, yoga and meditation. He also loves to travel: he has spent over a year of his life abroad and has visited over 40 countries.
