Kevin began tutoring while pursuing his degree in English  at California State University, East Bay. There, he confirmed his love of teaching, tutoring, and writing, deciding to dedicate his time and effort towards all three. After graduating, he attended Cal Poly Pomona’s excellent English master’s program, tutoring English at the college writing center his first year in the program. In his second year, he was selected as a teaching associate, creating the curriculum for and instructing a college-level English composition course. Additionally, since 2019 he has worked as a test prep, subject (English and AP History), and college essay tutor at various private educational companies, working with students ranging from elementary school to college.

Though the smaller details of his teaching strategy, ability, and philosophy constantly evolve, their core remains the same: providing students with personalized instruction, emphasizing tools and strategies that students can carry with them for future classes—and even into their careers. Kevin likes getting to know each student to understand their learning style in order to deliver constructive and personalized instruction and help. For college essays, he focuses on adding individuality and personality to each piece of writing, helping the student express their unique selves while expanding on their achievements. His approach is to keep the audience in mind, ensuring each essay is a block that builds a complete application, checking the boxes that admissions officers tend to look for. He utilizes a multi-stage writing process designed to get the most out of each response, from a 650-word personal statement to a 50-character single question response.

When Kevin isn’t working with his students on their writing, he can sometimes be found working on his own. Like other English degree holders, he has a secret desire to become a bestselling author, so don’t be too surprised if you see his name sometime in the future! Otherwise, he enjoys watching sports, old movies, and documentaries with a healthy dose of video games and spending time with his friends and loved ones. As a Bay Area native who has also spent time in SoCal, he has lived in California practically his whole life and doesn’t have plans to leave.
