Kao has been tutoring high school students for over seven years in Algebra I, Algebra II, Geometry, Pre-Calculus, and AP Calculus. In addition to tutoring, she worked as a teaching assistant at CSU, Fresno and lecturer at CSU, Chico where she facilitated Algebra and Statistics support and taught undergraduate Algebra, Trigonometry, and Pre-Calculus courses. She finds joy in helping students understand mathematics, especially when they struggle with its concepts.
Kao has always been eager to find the best ways to support each student, catering to each of their unique learning styles. As a result, she pursued her Master of Science in Mathematics to deepen her understanding of mathematical concepts and teaching strategies. She took part in two research studies on math education to further her knowledge of effective teaching strategies. These experiences led her to develop a teaching philosophy focused on building a safe learning environment, acting as a supportive and caring mentor, cultivating student’s confidence and self-efficacy, and maintaining a growth mindset. She believes she can help students build their math skills with the depth of knowledge and strategies she honed throughout her career focused in mathematics education.
In her free time, Kao enjoys exploring new places, trying new cuisines, and reading highly-rated books. If there’s ever a time she sees a drum set (and no one is around), she likes to play a beat or two.
