Sam is a native Vermonter who graduated summa cum laude from Saint Michael’s College with a major in Classics. As part of her undergraduate degree, Sam spent six months as a visiting scholar at Worcester College, Oxford, and in 2015 Sam returned to Oxford University to complete her Master of Studies. This experience has given Sam a depth of insight into the differences in tertiary education in both countries and sparked a passion for international study.
Upon completion of this degree, Sam took up a post as a teacher of Classics at Rugby School, a role which quickly expanded and diversified to include additional responsibilities like supervising the Extended Essay and managing the Theory of Knowledge department in the IB core. Her most enjoyable role during her tenure at Rugby, however, was as the director of North American university applications, which she carried out for six years before joining ESM. In this role, Sam helped students earn acceptances to a range of Ivies and other top US and Canadian universities, but moreover she was able to support students in developing their academic and co-curricular interests. Mentoring students through this process and seeing them reach their goals remains hugely rewarding.
Throughout her academic and professional career, Sam has trained seriously in Irish dancing, competing at multiple World Championships and performing in the opening ceremony of Birmingham’s Commonwealth Games in 2022. This pursuit has made clear the challenge and importance of balancing a co-curricular profile with academic rigour and of digging deep into a passion—however niche!
Sam is now a dual citizen and excited to continue mentoring students through the US application process. Outside of work, Sam is an avid reader and is a keen spectator of sports. Her favorite ice hockey team is the New York Rangers.
